How "The Bachelor" Saved My Friendships
Confession time: I have seen every season of ABC's The Bachelor and Bachelorette.
I would like to start by saying that I am most certainly NOT obsessed with a silly tv show. What I am obsessed with is the community that comes with it. You see, Monday nights are Girl's Night. The very first season of the Bachelor, I sat in my dorm room watching this ridiculous show with my roommates and chatting about who we thought was sweet, who was going to win, and who was down-right crazy.
Girl's Night has definitely changed over the years. It no longer involves indulging on fatty munchies and large groups of girls gossiping about the drama unfolding in front of them. Instead, Girl's Night now means I have a weekly date with my two best friends and that is priceless to me. Making dinner, crying babies, and uninterested 3-year-olds make for an interesting tv watching experience, but I wouldn't trade this time for the world. Often times when you get older, your friendships fall by the wayside because life gets busy and you're pulled in so many different directions. But Monday nights are our time to reconnect and enjoy spending time together - and of course we still share our opinions of the events unfolding before us on this silly tv show.
So did The Bachelor save my friendships? No, of course not. But it did give my friends and I a good reason to spend time together. Hopefully you have your own version of "Girl's Night" where you can spend times with your besties and reconnect.
