Caroline & Michael | Engaged (Chandelier Grove Wedding Photographer)
"Once we started dating, I knew that I was going to marry him."
Here's Caroline and Michael's love story, as told by Caroline.
What do you enjoy doing together?"We do almost everything together. Every night when Michael gets home from work we have a routine of either taking the dogs on a walk in the neighborhood or playing with them in the backyard and then cooking dinner together followed by alternating watching each others TV shows on the couch before bed- which sounds so very boring, but I love it because we to get focus on each other and learn about the other's day. One of our absolute favorite activities to do is going to Auburn football games together. We both went to Auburn and have a group of friends that all have season tickets together, so it always so much fun to go back to campus and re-live our college days during the fall. We also love to do outdoor activities- whether its throwing a crawfish boil in our backyard, or taking the dogs on a long hike in the state park, or being on the boat at the lake, we just love being outside."
How would you describe yourselves as a couple?"We are very calm and laid back. We were close friends for about 4 years before we started dating so we share many of the same friends from college, had each already met each other families, and knew each other's backstory. So when we finally got together we got to skip a lot of what new couples go through in getting know each other and such- it felt so natural and seemed as if we had already been together for a long time before that. We are both fairly private people compared to many other couples within our age group- as in we don't post wedding countdowns, long mushy paragraphs about our relationship, etc. on social media. We are great at telling each other how we feel about one another and surprising each other with sweet gestures, but aren't great about telling other people about our feelings if that makes sense? We are also very practical together. We like to think through decisions together and about the future and how we want that to look for us. Since the day we got engaged we have both said that we don't want our wedding to feel like an elaborate event or party. We wanted to keep it simple and elegant and not get caught up in the small details or stress of planning. It has not been incredibly important to us to follow the standard wedding etiquette, or to do things the same way as everyone else. For us, it has been more about making this night exactly what we want it to be and for it to be a representation of who we are, which actually describes our relationship almost perfectly. We love to keep things simple and practical and just do what makes each other the happiest."
How did the proposal go down?"We were in Highlands, NC staying at my cousins mountain house for a few days before Thanksgiving and were on a hike along a waterfall that we picked out before the trip. We started at the top of the waterfall and slowly made the way down stopping at each of the three scenic overlooks. I had said that my favorite one was the middle tier so on the way back up, he said we should back to that one. When we got there I was taking pictures of all the pretty scenery around us and when I turned back around he was down on his knee and asked me to marry him."
How would you describe your love?"Very natural and complementary. He brings me out of my comfort zone and is constantly challenging me and teaching me new things and I help him to focus on the little things and to be present in the here and now, rather than the future all of the time."
When did you know you loved your fiance?"Michael told me loved me at the end of our first date, and I knew I did too, but I don't think I said it to him until a couple of weeks later. Once we started dating, I knew that I was going to marry him."
